Leslie Jamison is the author of the New York Times bestsellers The Recovering and The Empathy Exams, and the novel The Gin Closet. She is a contributing writer for the New York Times Magazine, and her work has appeared in publications including The Atlantic, Harper’s, the New York Times Book Review, the Oxford American, and the Virginia Quarterly Review. She directs the graduate nonfiction program at Columbia University and lives in Brooklyn with her family.

Alex Marzano-Lesnevich is a 2014 National Endowment for the Arts fellow, an award given for their work on The Fact of a Body. They have received a Rona Jaffe Award and fellowships to the MacDowell Colony and Yaddo. Their essays appear in the New York Times, Oxford American, and the anthology Waveform: Twenty-first Century Essays by Women. They live in Boston, where they teach at Grub Street and in the graduate public policy program at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
