They were wealthy ancient Romans and the best known was a man named Apicius, who was the inspiration for the world’s first known cookbook and threw lavish parties for Caesar Tiberius. Apicius is at the center of Crystal King’s debut novel, Feast of Sorrow (Touchstone Books, 2017), which is set amongst the scandal, wealth, and upstairs-downstairs politics of a Roman family.
