Salty Quill Writers’ Retreat Grub Street Scholarship

April 1, 2019 | 12:00 am

The Salty Quill Writers Retreat for Women is pleased to offer two scholarships for full-week sessions at the fifth annual Salty Quill Writers Retreat from September 28-October 5, 2019. Each scholarship includes accommodations, all meals, use of all the facilities, and boat transportation to and from McGee’s Island. Transportation to and from the departure point of Port Clyde, Maine, is fully the responsibility of the scholarship recipient.

This year is the first year we are offering two full-week scholarships: the Ellis Avery scholarship, and the Grub Street Season Six scholarship. The Grub Street Season Six Scholarship is open to any woman writer who is a current and active member of Grub Street (see www.grubstreet.org) and who is actively pursuing creative writing. Although Ellis Avery lost her battle to cancer in the winter 2019, she remains an inspiration to a massive community of women infused by her spirit, joy, and bravery. This scholarship is supported in part by her partner, author and educator, Sharon Marcus.

Writers need not be published to be considered. The scholarships are awarded based on writing sample and application, with special attention given to women writers in financial need, LGBTQ writers, writers of color, writers over 50 years of age, and historically underrepresented and marginalized writers. The fee is $30. Deadline is May 31, 2019.
