Writing Hard Stories: Memoirists in Conversation

June 12, 2017 | 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Trident Booksellers and Cafe welcomes MELANIE BROOKS, author of Writing Hard Stories: Celebrated Memoirists Who Shaped Art from Trauma, for a conversation with acclaimed memoirists RICHARD HOFFMAN (Boy Erased), GARRARD CONLEY (Love and Fury), and Boston Literary District’s own ALYSIA ABBOTT (Fairyland). In her attempt to write a memoir about her father’s death from a secret AIDS infection in 1985, Brooks was left with some painful questions: What does it take to write an honest memoir? And what happens to us when we embark on that journey? She, Hoffman, Conley, and Abbott will explore these questions, as well as themes of family and queerness.

This event is presented in partnership with Grub Street, and includes a signing.
