Wrters ELENA GEORGIOU and KL PEREIRA Explore Immigration, Refugees, and Identity at the Boston Public Library

The latest statistics tell us that there are sixty-five million refugees, asylum-seekers, and internally displaced people around the world. ELENA GEORGIOU’s The Immigrant’s Refrigerator plucks a few of these people out of the crowd and brings their stories to life to examine what it means to search for a future that will not only be a place of refuge but also of hope. KL PEREIRA’s A Dream Between Two Rivers is a literary and speculative collection of tales that illuminates the lives of women, children, immigrants, and those who live on the dark edges of society, crossing borders to find themselves.

GEORGIOU is the author of Rhapsody of the Naked Immigrants and mercy mercy me, which won a Lambda Literary Award for poetry and was a finalist for the Publishing Triangle Award. She is also coeditor with Michael Lassell of the poetry anthology The World in Us. Georgiou has won an Astraea emerging writers award and a New York Foundation of the Arts Fellowship and was a fellow at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She is an editor at Tarpaulin Sky Press and director of the MFA in creative writing program at Goddard College.

PEREIRA’s chapbook Impossible Wolves was published by Deathless Press in 2013. Her fiction, poetry, and nonfiction have appeared in The Drum, Shimmer, Innsmouth Free Press, Mythic Delirium, Jabberwocky, Bitch, and other publications. She’s a member of the New England Horror Writers Association and has taught creative writing in high schools, domestic violence shelters, colleges and universities, and writing institutions throughout New England for over ten years.
