Literary District Director Alysia Abbott comes with a background in civic affairs and fundraising, as well as in writing. Through private donations and a vigorous social media campaign, she, along with cofounder Whitney Joiner, launched The Recollectors Project, a storytelling forum and community dedicated to remembering parents lost to AIDS. The project was covered in The New York Times and The Washington Post and was featured on NPR’s Here and Now and StoryCorps. She also wrote multimillion dollar grants for the New York Public Library where she later worked in Special Events, producing film shoots for big budget movies like Spiderman and working on fashion shows with Seventh on 6th.
