Children contain multitudes, and poetry can give us a glimpse into their minds. Since September, children in the America SCORES Boston after-school program have been working towards a performance of spoken word poetry. They have been learning about poetic devices, different styles of creative writing, and rehearsing their performances with the help of their teachers, community members, and Neiel Israel, a nationally-known National Poetry Slam competitor, educator, and spoken-word poet. Come hear the poetry of Boston Public School students at the America SCORES poetry slam. This event is free and open to the public.
Certain books were “banned in Boston” at least as far back as 1651, when one William Pynchon wrote a book criticizing Puritanism.
