Poem as Event: A Reading

This reading features new work written over the course of a 10-session workshop this past fall, hosted by poet KEVIN MCLELLAN. Kevin’s intention for this workshop was “to challenge our understanding of what a poem can do, encourage ‘poem as event’ (as opposed to the retelling of events i.e, a linear narrative) for the purposes of discovery within language.”

JOSETTE AKRESH-GOZALES lives in Waltham with her husband and children and is a production editor at NEJM Group. Her work has been published in numerous journals, including JuxtaProse and PANK Magazine. She co-founded the journal Clarion (@clarionlitmag) and was its Editor for two years. EILEEN CLEARY is the Assistant Poetry Editor at Carve Magazine. She’s a graduate of Lesley University’s MFA program and has recently published work in Naugatuck River Review, J Journal: New Writing on Justice, Westview and Apeiron.

EMILY LOGAN grew up in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and studied poetry at Sarah Lawrence College. She lives in Arlington with her husband, son and two terriers. She has spent two decades working in trade book publishing.

STEVEN RIEL is the author of one full-length collection of poetry, Fellow Odd Fellow, and three chapbooks, the most recent of which, Postcard from P-town, was published by Seven Kitchens Press as runner-up for the inaugural Robin Becker Chapbook Prize. His poems have appeared in several anthologies and numerous periodicals.

DANIEL SARVER is an unpublished poet living in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

KEVIN MCLELLAN is the author of the books Ornitheology (The Word Works, 2018), Hemispheres (Fact-Simile Editions, 2018), [box] (Letter [r] Press, 2016), Tributary (Barrow Street, 2015), and Round Trip (Seven Kitchens, 2010). He won the 2015 Third Coast Poetry Prize and Gival Press’ 2016 Oscar Wilde Award, and his poems have appeared in numerous journals. Kevin lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
