No director. No set. No rehearsals.

A metaphorical work by Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour, White Rabbit Red Rabbit has been performed in many cities, but is always unique, thanks to Soleimanpour’s rules: Each night of the performance, the audience arrives to a stage set with only a script in a sealed envelope. Every night, a different actor takes the stage, opens the envelope, and reads the script aloud for the first—and last—time.

“I was born on Azar 19th, 1360 in Tehran. That’s Tehran, December 10th, 1981 in Christian years…

Forbidden from leaving his country, Soleimanpour distilled the experience of an entire generation in a wild, utterly original play. White Rabbit Red Rabbit is a work about contemporary Iran–the Iran of Nassim’s generation, a generation born amid the hardship of the Iran-Iraq war, a generation of computer-literate, well-informed young people who have never known an Iran other than the Islamic Republic.

White Rabbit Red Rabbit has been performed over one thousand times worldwide, by various actors including Whoopi Goldberg, Nathan Lane, Alan Cumming, Martin Short, F. Murray Abraham, Cynthia Nixon, and John Hurt. It has been translated into more than 20 languages.

Join us in discovering the play no one is allowed to talk about.

Starring: Carissa Halston (Nov 14), Jennifer Taschereau (Nov 15), Sam Cha (Nov 16)

“Playful, enigmatic, and haunting” — Charles Isherwood, The New York Times

“A dazzling, transcendent piece of alive-and-kicking theatre…I experienced a play that no one in the world will ever experience again…the whole building felt like it was living and breathing.” — Entertainment Weekly

“A thoughtful, playful response to oppression.” — The Guardian
