Greater Boston Writers Resist/Greater Boston Writers Persist
Writers in greater Boston have long addressed political and politicized issues in their work, including racism, police brutality, immigration, environmental activism, LGBTQ discrimination, US involvement in foreign wars, domestic terror, domestic violence, and mass incarceration. Readings will be interspersed with discussion of how these authors have used writing as a method of resistance, and how their work serves as an example of persistent activism.
Presented by Aforementioned Productions. New or future grubbies can get to know Grub HQ, hear about upcoming Summer classes, and mingle with fellow students and writers. Grub staff members will be on hand to discuss your writing goals and recommend classes that are right for you, plus we have special class discounts for all attendees.

Join us for a productive writing night. We work from simple but fertile prompts and spend most of our time writing. If you are up to it, you can share with the group.
Open to all writers and every genre. We promise you will leave with good material to mine for new and existing projects.

Young Writers and Illustrators: Meet & Greet
Meet other local youth (ages 18 & under) who share the same interest in writing and art that you do on Monday, March 19th. This is an opportunity to connect with other young writers and illustrators from Wakefield, Stoneham, Melrose, Reading, Saugus, Lynnfield, North Reading, Wilmington, Winchester, and surrounding towns in a casual and art-focused atmosphere. Bring your curiosity for creativity! Stop in for any length of time starting at 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Boys & Girls Club of Wakefield’s Teen Room, located on the ground floor of the Civic Center (467 Main Street, Wakefield, MA). This is a FREE event.
Create Illustration Trading Cards, try out our typewriters, learn about zines or just chat and connect with other young people off-line. Feel welcome to bring your own art or writing to share. Enjoy a cup of tea, coffee or some hot cocoa with plenty of whipped cream along with some sweet treats.

Rekindle Your Craft: A Prompt-Driven Writing Night

Has the cold weather been getting you down? Did the holiday season tire you out ? Is your writing stuck underneath the covers unwilling venture out? Let us help you then!
Join us for a productive night of writing using prompts to motivate some creativity. We work from one-word prompts, write for 20 minutes and share our writing with the group if we want to. The idea is to relax, get any kind of writing done, and to leave with some material you can use in the future. Every genre and every level are welcome. Free but please RSVP on the event link to ensure that we have room for you.
We’re graciously hosted by The Village Works, the best coworking space in town. During the same night The Village Works will be hosting a writing marathon that begins at 7pm and goes until 10pm. You can move between events as you wish.

Join us for a night of not checking facebook. Meet some neighbors and writers while you’re at it! We’ll have The Village Works’s snacks, coffee, and productivity-optimized workspace to help us shine.
Bring a friend and caffeinate with us for your letter-writing campaign or come alone and finish your memoir in our silent reading room. Rekindle Your Craft, a prompt-driven writing night, will be taking place in the same building, so feel free to come and go between the two events.

DEBORAH SOSIN offers a brand-new workshop to jumpstart your writing year with a blast of freewriting from prompts, combined with simple mindfulness skills and strategies designed to lower your stress and boost your creativity.
The workshop will include: freewriting from prompts, sharing your writing (optional), mini talk about mindfulness for writers, simple mindfulness exercises, group discussion. Location: Newton Highlands, Mass. Details provided upon registration.
Deborah Sosin’s first picture book, Charlotte and the Quiet Place, illustrated by Sara Woolley, was published by Parallax Press in 2015. Her essays have appeared on Salon, Cognoscenti, and in the Boston Globe Magazine, The Writer’s Chronicle, Journal News, Writer’s Digest, Zone 3, and elsewhere. Two essays were selected to appear in the anthologies Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Cat Did What? and Perspectives on Modern World History: The Apollo 11 Moon Landing.
In 2009, Debbie launched “Write It Like It Is” workshops and groups, designed to help people free up their authentic voice through writing in a nonjudgmental atmosphere. She offers personal coaching to writers and is an instructor at GrubStreet, an independent writing center in Boston. She also offers private executive function coaching and writing tutoring to adolescents and adults.
