The Brandeis department of English is pleased to welcome CARL PHILLIPS, author of several books of poetry including Reconnaissance, winner of the 2016 PEN Center USA Literary Award for Poetry. PHILLIPS has also published The Art of Daring: Risk, Restlessness, Imagination (Graywolf, 2015), and Coin of the Realm: Essays on the Life and Art of Poetry (Graywolf, 2004); and has translated Sophocles’s Philoctetes (Oxford, 2004).  A finalist for both the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award, his honors include the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for…
